Home/Work is a photographic archive of everyday objects used to raise, nurture, feed, house and clothe children across time and cultures. These items or tools that aid in parenting include toys & games, arms & armor, books & pamphlets, clothes & shoes, silverware & furniture. While not comprehensive, this series aims to depict items and their histories that are frequently dismissed and overlooked in contemporary society and art. Photographed digitally, these images’ presentation is influenced by nineteenth century photography, including stereoscopic photography, a favorite past time of that period. Home/Work’s aim is not only to reveal, but to elevate, the hidden, unpaid, and often full-time labor performed in many households that care for children across time and location.
